Allurion Balloon Insertion Process

Swallowing The Capsule

The procedure begins when the patient swallows a capsule that holds a deflated balloon connected to a thin tube. This is generally done in a doctor's office and doesn't require sedation. After swallowing the capsule with water, an X-ray is taken to verify that it has reached the stomach.

Inflating The Balloon

After the capsule reaches the stomach, the balloon is gradually inflated with a saline solution via the catheter. The process typically takes about 15 minutes, and the balloon is filled with 400 to 750 millilitres of saline, based on the patient's needs and the surgeon's guidance.

Detaching The Catheter

Once the balloon is fully inflated and properly positioned, the final step involves the careful removal of the thin catheter. This process is performed gently and precisely to ensure the patient's comfort and safety. Approximately 4 months later, the Allurion Balloon self-empties and passes naturally.
